Representing Africa is a fabric known as mud cloth. Which is a traditional Malian fabric that is dyed with fermented mud and plant dyes. Historically the mud is dried by the sun, then repeatedly painted with more fermented mud. This wonderful strong fabric is complimented with a brown leather. Showing this 18" X 18" (but not appearing as a square) has a zipped closure on this fully lined bag. The lining  is a cotton African fabric(not mud cloth) and two interior pockets. The dropped leather sash on the exterior is strictly a creative step.

Miriam Uzenzile Makeba had a difficult time entering onto this earth. As her mothers second child, caused so much trouble at birth that they named her Uzenzile ( meaning You get what you deserve and it's your fault).After spending time with her mother in jail (for selling yellow beer ,illegally) and living in extreme poverty, she began to sing to the children in the village to make them happy. She went on to make it her career ad became a activist. Later moved to America and married Stokely Carmicheal. She later exiled to Guinea and embarked on an international career. Her talents and her militant engagements made her an Icon in the defense of human rights.
